While doing fieldwork at
rural health clinics in Mexico, we observed that children in the midst
of an asthma attack were forced to travel hundreds of miles to an
urban hospital receive treatment. This was despite the fact that their
local doctor could diagnose the symptoms of asthma and had ample
supply of the proper medication. We discovered that the missing
link was a spacing device that could ensure the delivery of asthma
medication to the lungs of the suffering child. We set out to
design a spacer that could accomplish this while remaining inexpensive
enough to be affordable throughout the developing world. |
